Qantas recently made a significant announcement regarding their upcoming plans to facilitate the repatriation of Australians stranded in Lebanon. In an effort to bring these individuals back home, the airline is set to launch a third non-stop flight from Cyprus to Sydney.

Flight ASY1280 is scheduled to depart from Larnaca International Airport on the evening of October 11, 2024. Passengers will board the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, with the anticipated arrival at Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport slated for October 13, 2024. This additional service is conducted on behalf of the Australian Government, aiming to assist Australians in Lebanon with their journey back to their homeland.

The operation of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight, designated as ASY1280, represents Qantas' commitment to supporting the repatriation efforts. Upon reaching Australia, the airline will transport passengers to the nearest domestic airport at no cost, ensuring a smooth continuation of their journey home.

Moreover, the airline has pledged to conduct this service in collaboration with the Australian government, emphasizing that passengers will not incur any expenses for their travel. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is actively overseeing the registration process for Australians seeking to return home, underlining the coordinated efforts in place to facilitate this repatriation initiative.

Prior to this upcoming flight, Qantas successfully managed the operation of previous repatriation services, including Flight ASY1258, which safely brought 220 passengers back to Australia. The involvement of Flight and Cabin Crew members further illustrates the dedication and professionalism exhibited by the airline throughout these operations.

As these repatriation flights bear a Royal Australian Air Force flight designation under the code ASY, the Australian Embassy in Lebanon encourages affected individuals to secure their seats on these essential flights promptly. It's crucial to act swiftly as these rescue flights may not be available indefinitely.
