Qantas has announced a major refurbishment program for its A330-200 aircraft that will be utilized on international routes flying out of Australia to key destinations like Hong Kong, Singapore, and Tokyo. The airline is gearing up to retrofit 10 of these planes in a multimillion-dollar investment, with the process kicking off mid-2025 at Qantas’ Brisbane facility. By the end of the year, the first upgraded aircraft will commence service, while the entire refurbishment initiative is slated for completion by the end of 2026.
The cabin enhancements will involve a range of updates, including new mood lighting, revamped curtains and carpets, and the retention of the existing Business Suites featuring fully-flat beds. Qantas is focusing on revolutionizing the in-flight experience through these upgrades, as revealed by Cam Wallace, the Qantas International CEO, who expressed, “We’ve leveraged our fleet renewal initiative to completely reimagine the passenger journey, introducing next-generation features and designs to our current planes.” Wallace further emphasized the introduction of brand new Economy seats crafted for maximum comfort and tailored for international travel needs. These seats are a preview of what travelers can expect on Qantas’ ultra long-haul A350-1000 ULR planes, offering a glimpse into the anticipated Project Sunrise flying experience.
In addition to the cabin upgrades, Qantas is rolling out international Wi-Fi services on its A330 fleet. Passengers can expect fast and complimentary Wi-Fi connectivity on select routes in Asia aboard the Wi-Fi equipped A330 aircraft by December 2024. This technological advancement will further enhance the in-flight experience for travelers flying with Qantas. Stay tuned for these exciting changes that promise to elevate the journey for passengers flying on the upgraded A330 planes!
