Pilotcenter.net News reports that the first Qantas Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner designated to repatriate Australian nationals escaping conflict in Lebanon has completed its mission, landing safely at Sydney Airport (SYD). The passengers were evacuated from Larnaca Airport (LCA) in Cyprus after making their way from Lebanon with government support.
Carrying 220 passengers, four pilots, 10 cabin crew members, and a specialized team on board, the Dreamliner with registration VH-ZNC covered a staggering 15,890 km journey to bring everyone back to Australia. Surpassing the distance of Qantas' renowned Perth to London route, this flight was a true test of endurance for both the crew and the aircraft.
The intense situation in Lebanon, exacerbated by Israeli forces stepping into southern Lebanon to combat Hezbollah, prompted the urgent evacuation of around 15,000 Australians residing in the region. With the success of this first repatriation flight, another flight, ASY1270, is slated to depart Larnaca on October 9, 2024, and is expected to arrive in Australia on October 10, 2024.
This challenging operation highlighted the unwavering commitment of the airline and its crew to ensure the safety and well-being of Australian citizens in distress. Stay tuned for more updates on this critical mission!
