KLM, the national airline of the Netherlands, celebrated a significant milestone on October 7, 2024, as it commemorated 105 years since its inception. Founded in 1919 as Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij, which translates to 'Royal Dutch Airlines', the airline has the distinction of being the world's oldest operating commercial airline company.

In keeping with tradition, KLM unveiled a new Delft Blue House as part of its 105th-anniversary festivities, a gift that passengers eagerly look forward to receiving. These iconic blue and white pottery houses have become coveted collectibles among frequent flyers, serving as cherished mementos of their journeys with the airline. Since the 1950s, KLM has been gifting these miniature houses filled with Bols Jenever liqueur to its World Business Class travelers on long-haul flights, with each house replicating historic buildings in the Netherlands and beyond. A new addition to this collection is introduced every year on KLM's birthday, October 7, with each house boasting its own unique narrative.

The latest design of the Delft Blue House unveiled for the 105th anniversary pays homage to 'Het huis aan de drie grachten' in Amsterdam, a historic landmark that stands proudly along three of the city's main canals. Originally constructed in 1610 in the Dutch Renaissance style, this mansion underwent a significant renovation in 1909 under the supervision of architect Jan de Meyer, restoring it to its former 17th-century glory.

During a special ceremony in Amsterdam, Marjan Rintel, the President and CEO of KLM, presented the inaugural copy of the new Delft Blue House to Arthur van Dijk, the King's Commissioner in North Holland. Rintel reflected on the airline's enduring legacy and resilience over the past century, especially amidst ongoing efforts to enhance its operational efficiency and financial performance through cost-cutting and restructuring initiatives.

Rintel expressed, “The unveiling of a new KLM house on our anniversary is always a special moment. Despite the challenges we currently face, throughout our 105-year history, KLM has continuously demonstrated its ability to innovate and adapt in the face of adversity. Our objective is to ensure a sustainable and thriving KLM for the future, maintaining our commitment to connecting the Netherlands with the world for many years to come."
