Pilotcenter.net News is excited to announce the latest addition to Brussels Airlines' renowned 'Belgian Icons' aircraft series. The captivating new livery showcases the iconic Atomium monument, a symbol deeply rooted in Belgian culture since its introduction at the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair. After a rigorous selection process that began in August 2024 and garnered nearly 900 submissions, the winning design by Belgian architect Thomas Faes was unveiled in November of the same year. This design captivated not only the public, with over 50,000 votes cast, but also a panel of distinguished judges including Brussels Airlines CEO Dorothea von Boxberg and influential figures from the arts and cultural spheres.
Following over 2,400 hours of painstaking work and the application of approximately 400 liters of paint, the striking livery now adorns the fuselage of an Airbus A320 with registration OO-SNM. The official presentation of this masterpiece took place at the Brussels Airlines Maintenance & Engineering hangar, marking a significant milestone in the airline's 'Belgian Icons' collection. In true Brussels Airlines fashion, the interior of the A320 has also been meticulously detailed to reflect the theme of the Atomium, bridging the gap between art and aviation.
Passengers traveling between Brussels-Zaventem (BRU) and Prague (PRG) can look forward to experiencing the inaugural flight of this magnificent aircraft on March 27, 2025. As the latest addition to their themed fleet, the Atomium-inspired livery represents yet another captivating tribute to Belgian heritage by Brussels Airlines.
